On your bike for a bargain! Stirling to receive new nextbike initiative to support local shoppers

06.06.2019

Leading bike share firm nextbike is launching a UK-first in Stirling this week as it rewards people for using pedal power to support local shopping in the city.

nextbike’s Shop Local campaign will give people free cycling as an incentive for opting for a sustainable form of travel while supporting local vendors.

The Stirling nextbike scheme, which has clocked up over 150,000km since its launch in 2014, is the first to receive the initiative in the UK.

The campaign consists of selected Stirling shop owners and vendors receiving a code for a 1-month free membership to give to customers who spend over £10 in store.

The first organisation to sign up for the scheme is Stirling NeighbourFood, which covers around 25 producers a week, selling online through ‘virtual stalls’ and meeting up with customers on Thursdays to deliver goods.

nextbike MD, Krysia Solheim said she was thrilled to see the initiative hitting Stirling’s streets.

“The demand for bike share in Stirling has definitely grown since it launched five years ago and the community has completely embraced the scheme, making it the perfect place to introduce this initiative,” she said.

“We’ve received immense support from the Forth Environmental Link as well as from the Scottish government and our users in Stirling. This is the first initiative of kind in the UK and we’re thrilled to support sustainable shopping and travel in the area.”

Phillippa Cochrane, Active Travel Hub Coordinator at Forth Environmental Link said:

“It’s great to see nextbike supporting local Stirling vendors. It’s important to keep our high streets and marketplaces active and in use and we hope that this initiative encourages the public to look at what's on offer in our city.”

The initiative will begin from June and continue throughout the summer in Stirling. Users are also encouraged to follow and use the hashtag #ShopLocal across social media.

This initiative entitles each customer to one month free membership after which customers will be automatically enrolled into the scheme’s £5 a month membership with a 12 month commitment.

Customers are able to cancel their subscription during the free period by sending an email to customer services at info@nextbike.co.uk
