Cardiffian to take part in charity race on nextbike

A Cardiff nextbiker is using the city’s bike share scheme to pedal his way to pounds for a Welsh charity this weekend.

 

University student, Ieuan Davies, who uses nextbikes daily as part of his regular commute, is embarking on a ride to raise funds for homelessness charity, Llamau.

 

Ieuan, a 25-year-old PhD student at Cardiff University, is undertaking in the Carten 100 event on Saturday (April 27), which will see him ride 100 miles from Cardiff to Tenby and back in a day.

 

“The event is very well known and well respected in Cardiff, and I wanted to do something good,” said Ieuan.

 

“I wanted to do this for homelessness charity Llamau and thought it would be a great way of showing people what a nextbike can do and to promote sustainable travel.

 

Ieuan added: “Cardiff has really embraced it which is great to see. I don’t bother with a car anymore.”

Fiona Hawthorn, Corporate & Community Fundraiser at Llamau said that the charity was ‘absolutely thrilled’ to hear of Ieuan’s plans. She said: “We love the idea that Ieuan wanted to do something out of the ordinary to draw attention to his fundraising for Llamau, and to help end homelessness for young people and women in Wales. We can’t wait to see him at the finish line.”
